The Arnold Sports Festival UK run by the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) was a great success! The Festival had a large turnout both in-person and online. There were many great battles throughout the various events, and many world records were broken. We were also rewarded with the greatest performance ever by a classic woman by GL Points or DOTS.

Lya Bavoil’s Historic Performance

After winning the 2021 world championships, Prescillia “Lya” Bavoil was a heavy favorite to win the 2022 world championships, get an invite to Sheffield, and possibly even win the overall best lifter award. Lya’s path took a detour though when she missed weight and wasn’t able to defend her world title. This set Lya on a new path, a redemption path that went through the Arnold UK.

Lya certainly didn’t disappoint making weight for the 63 kg class, breaking the world record squat on her second attempt with 210.5 kg and again on her third attempt with 213 kg, breaking the world record deadlift with 231 kg, and breaking the world record total with 556.5 kg.

Not only was this the best performance ever in the 63 kg class but also the best performance ever regardless of weight class based on multiple metrics. Using the IPF’s GL Points, her performance came out to 122.26 points which beats out the previous best set by Amanda Lawrence in 2020 of 122.17 points. Using another commonly used powerlifting formula, DOTS, Lya’s performance comes out to 600.86 points. This also beats out the previous best set by Amanda Lawrence of 595.43 points and makes Lya the first woman to break the 600 DOTS barrier.

Going forward, we’ll see if Lya gets that Sheffield invite based on this historic performance and whether she chooses to compete in the 63 kg or 69 kg class for future world championships.
