43 kg Weight Class

Team Italy led from the off with the first junior European champion of the competition, Alessandra Gentilucci, alone in class in the 43s.  Her teammate, Marta Scuderi in the 47s did not have things all her own way.  She had a decent lead on squats that was instantly overturned by Nataliia Cheremenko’s (UKR) massive bench.  She broke Tiffany Chapon’s bench record with a monster 99kg press to take the lead but she had no defence against Scuderi’s deadlift and the pendulum swung back once more to give Scuderi her first international win.

52 kg Weight Class

C2urrent junior world champion, Camille Hadrys (FRA) had a close battle with Olivia Kyosti (FIN) in the 52s.  They were only separated by 2.5kg at sub-total but Hadrys’ bigger deadlift swung it for her and she finished 10kg ahead.

57 kg Weight Class

In the 57s, French phenom, Jade Jacob, looked comfortable throughout with a PR on bench and three swings at the junior deadlift world record.  210.5kg looked easy and 223kg didn’t slow her down much – this was enough to take the OPEN total record from Joy Nnamani.   227.5kg was a step too far but Jade has made a real statement about the future of the 57kg class.  She also took the best lifter award with 116.7210 GL points and moved into the top 10 of all time in the IPF women’s rankings.

63 kg Weight Class

The 63kg class was a platform for a real breakthrough performance for Ludivine Delos, also Team France.  She’s been climbing the ranks for the last year or so, adding weight to her total at a rate of knots.  She took a tough 184kg for the junior world record on her second squat, giving her a huge lead.  However Alba Bostrom (SWE) benched a massive 120kg (on the third attempt!) to close the gap to only 1.5kg going into deadlifts.  However, Delos stormed ahead on deads and took her first international title.
